I am Kary. I’m a Business Analyst, I am FDM.

My name is Kary and I am a Business Analyst Consultant currently placed at Standard Chartered in Tianjin, China.

I grew up in Hangzhou in east China, but I always hoped to go to university in the UK. I wanted to experience a completely different culture. In return, studying abroad enabled me to think differently while living and growing independently.

I graduated from Queen Mary University in London with a MSc. in International Financial Management and a passion to develop a career in technology and finance. I did a lot of research into companies and finally found FDM Group’s Graduate Programme. I didn’t have a background in IT, but I believed that FDM would be the perfect pathway to my dream job. FDM has certainly achieved that for me!

I joined FDM as a PMO Trainee in the London Academy in winter 2015. The training course enabled me to build an understanding of the software development lifecycle, the project management methodology and financial industry awareness. The course gave me the tools and knowledge to take up a position at Standard Chartered Global Business Services in Tianjin.

This placement is my dream job, in my home country. Tianjin is far enough away from Hangzhou that I am able to have new experiences and grow as an individual, yet close enough to go home to visit family and friends.

I currently work as a Business Analyst within the data modelling team and I thoroughly enjoy the working environment at Standard Chartered. My team is working on designing the data transmission model within the bank. We are responsible for data mining and data analysis, as well as translating the requirements into business reports for financial markets.

My daily tasks vary depending on the project I am working on and I am continuously learning every day. I hope to continue to build on my knowledge moving forward and undertake the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) course and exam in the near future. My role allows for me to develop personally as well as professionally which I believe is key.

I love being part of the FDM Tianjin family and we now have more than 10 Consultants based here. I am really enjoying my time here and am thankful to FDM for such a great opportunity!
