Have you received a suspicious message relating to a job offer?
We have recently been made aware of a widespread recruitment scam where messages are being sent from recruiters claiming to be connected to FDM Group and other similar companies. These unsolicited messages are being sent across SMS Text, WhatsApp and Telegram messages to discuss potential job roles.
Here is our advice on how to stay vigilant and how to recognise a potential scam message.
How to recognise a potential scam message:
FDM Group will never contact individuals unexpectedly or offer jobs using SMS text messages, WhatsApp, or Telegram, so be wary of unsolicited messages.
The messages will typically be from an unknown number, with an introduction to entice you to respond and include a short description of job roles and pay.
How to protect yourself:
FDM Group recommend the following actions to protect yourself from text scams:
Please do not respond and immediately stop communicating with anyone you suspect may be a part of a scam.
Do not share your personal information or click or follow any links that are provided.
Reporting scam messages:
- If the message was received by SMS text message, copy the text and forward the SMS text to 7726. This alerts your network provider to help identify and block similar messages. OfCom have produced detailed videos on how to report and forward scam texts and scam mobile calls, please see here for details: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/scam-calls-and-messages/7726-reporting-scam-texts-and-calls/
- Report it to Action Fraud online at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/reporting-fraud-and-cyber-crime. Or call them on 0300 123 2040 (Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm).
- If you have lost money, have shared your bank account details, or if you believe you are the victim of identity theft, you may also want to report the scam to your bank or financial institution.
At FDM Group, security is our priority. We are actively monitoring for scams and working to protect our community.
