FDM’s ongoing partnership with top tech providers powers client’s major software migration

An insurance firm required skilled professionals to complete its migration to Guidewire. However, as software-specific training is elongated and expensive, the client struggled to recruit.

Following an in-depth consultation with the client, FDM designed a customised program that combined core tech capabilities with tool-specific upskilling, providing job-ready resources in
a reduced timeframe. More than 50 FDM Consultants are now assigned across two client sites, delivering improved efficiency and reduced costs.

Discover what’s possible with FDM. Our client case studies showcase how our continuous upskilling model can adapt to your business needs.

Guidewire supports the full insurance lifecycle, including policy administration, underwriting, billing, and claims management. Migrating to this platform offers flexibility, cost savings, and enhanced security. However, finding skilled professionals is a challenge, as training and certification are often time-consuming and costly.

FDM’s five-year partnership with the client built trust. Despite no prior Guidewire experience, we offered cost-effective support for their new project. The client’s aim was to onboard certified engineers for PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, and ClaimCenter within four weeks.

FDM partners with top tech providers to offer upskilling opportunities in both mainstream and niche technologies through our Skills Lab. Seamless integration of these customised upskilling programs allows rapid delivery of our client-specific solutions. FDM’s 100-plus global tech agnostic coaches can break down new proprietary technology to create training content. Our Delivery Team documented handover procedures on-site to design the bespoke Guidewire coaching program.

Design

FDM’s experts researched, designed, and built a concise program that ensured our consultants could absorb the content quickly and immediately put it into effect.

This reinforces a key FDM service feature: by reducing the learning curve, we can rapidly deploy skilled resources to step in and support a transformation within the client’s team. FDM’s adaptable model, with no unnecessary layers of approval or process, allows an unmatched agility and response rate.

Before undertaking the custom Guidewire program, consultants from the Software Engineering Practice gained core capabilities such as Unix, SQL, and object-oriented design (OOD) principles.

Deliver

Guidewire certification can take up to 14 weeks, depending on the module. From the client’s brief, FDM researched, designed, and built a new program, then trained, certified, and deployed three Guidewire Development Engineers on-site within 30 days. Following the bank’s Guidewire migration, FDM Consultants handled enhancements and provided business analysis for future needs. The client valued the energy and fresh perspective our team brought to their insurance group.

Client benefits included:
Time savings – FDM onboarded certified developers with relevant knowledge in a third of the usual time.
Cost savings – Developing custom resources instead of recruiting experienced talent saved the client at least one-third the cost of other consultancies.
Zero attrition – The client secured skilled consultants below market rate, while consultants gained valuable certifications that boosted their market value.

A widening impact:
Word of FDM’s time and cost efficiencies spread within the organization, stimulating enquiry from other technology groups. This led to more programs focused on new tech and providing a steady supply of Business Analysts, Quality Engineers and Testers.

By 2023, we placed 50 FDM Consultants with the bank across two cities, supporting their Engineering, Change and Delivery, and IT Operations teams. We’ve also replicated the Guidewire Skills Lab, placing over 100 consultants across more than
15 global clients.
