The Ex-Forces Business Awards, also referred to as ‘the Oscars of ex-forces employment’, are considered to be the world’s largest celebration of veterans who have made the choice to venture into a second career. The awards are dedicated to recognising the hard work and dedication of these veterans, and the value they bring to businesses outside of the military. They also pay tribute to the incredible employers who support veterans throughout their transition from military lives to civilian careers.

FDM recognised as Employer of the Year for veterans

Earlier this year, Ex-Forces consultants, trainees and alumni joined the wider FDM team in London, Leeds and Glasgow at the London office to witness our CEO Rod Flavell receive the British Ex-Forces Employer of the Year sword.

The sword was gifted to us following our award win at the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards 2021, It was a remarkable achievement and great honour to receive this prestigious award from Lt Gen Ed Davis CB CBE.

We are beyond proud of our achievements and would like to say a huge thank you to our Ex-Forces team who work hard every day to help the veteran community.

This year the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards 2022 was held on 8 September and brought 0ver 1,000 business and military leaders together. It was an occasion to celebrate 20 winners from 700+ nominations, and demonstrated the exceptional value that military veterans add to employers and the wider economy in their second careers.

This year FDM were the proud sponsors of the Business Leader of the Year Award and our own Ex-Forces consultant Jamie Marshall was a finalist for the New Service Leaver of the Year Award.

Seeing veterans succeed is the real reward

Over the years, FDM has won a number of awards for our work within the veteran community, and while we’re immensely grateful for the recognition, we don’t do it for the awards. Our teams are truly committed to supporting the veteran community and helping ex-forces personnel from all ranks find success post-military.

James Murray, Head of Recruitment, Ex-Forces Programme FDM UK says – ‘Through our established and award-winning Ex-Forces Programme, we are proud to have been able to provide meaningful second careers to over 750+ Ex-Military personnel since January 2014. We recognise the talent, demonstrable values and qualities that service leavers, veterans and reservists can bring to the commercial sector through their many years of valued service.

The programme is run by ex-service personnel that have also served in HM Armed Forces, and through our shared experiences we feel ideally placed to understand and translate your backgrounds and transferrable skillsets to those that commercial organisations are looking for.

As a DRM Gold Award winner we are committed to providing career opportunities in Technology to individuals across all ranks and service backgrounds.’

Using their existing skills and new training, these veterans will go on to make a real impact in the corporate world and excel in their careers. For us, knowing that we’ve helped improve the lives of many, is a reward in itself. The awards are just a reminder that we are on the right path, and we’re honoured to receive this recognition.

With the right training and support, every veteran has the potential to succeed in a civilian career. Are you looking to kickstart your professional life post-military? Check out the FDM Ex-Forces Careers Programme for more information.
