“I had never really been ‘out West’ before.”

Will Wellspring is one of many FDM Consultants who have taken on a bi-coastal adventure in their placements. Having been in the Army, he was used to moving around a bit: I grew up in Ohio, went to college in Arkansas, was stationed in Kentucky in the Army, and then spent a year in New York. I had never been to LA before, though.”

 “I was definitely nervous.”

When asked if he had any nerves before picking up and moving to take on his role as an FDM Consultant in Los Angeles, Will said “definitely,” but also that he was excited. “I had heard a lot of good things about LA, but I didn’t know anyone out here.” Once he arrived, though, he settled in quickly.

“There is greenery everywhere. You can easily go to the beach and the mountains in the same day.”

Will has enjoyed his experience out on the West Coast even more than he expected to, reflecting, “I like it better than NYC; how it feels more open, more spread out. I grew up in the country, so I like how Los Angeles doesn’t really feel like a city – at least parts of it. Some highways are tree lined so it feels like you’re driving in the country.”

“It’s been a good city for me.”

Will has taken full advantage of the California sunshine. In his free time, he says he likes to go to the beach or go hiking, and he still has plans to go scuba diving and sailing. He also loves the variety of cuisines available to try!

Best thing about the experience? Hard to choose!

When asked what the best thing has been about his experience as an FDM Consultant at Union Bank, Will remarked, “This one’s hard! I get to code every day… I’m on a great and growing team… I am doing challenging work, so I’m never bored… plus I’m in LA!”

Tips for new FDMers moving to Los Angeles?

“While there is public transit, having a car makes it much easier to get around. Do some research on where in LA you want to live. There are a lot of different cultures and living situations in different areas of LA; sometimes it seems like multiple cities have been smashed together.”
