Back in June 2018 (which now feels like a lifetime ago) I started my 12-month placement at FDM Group in London as a Sales Analyst. From day one I was in awe of the office location here at London Bridge, having a desk that overlooked the Thames with St. Pauls Cathedral in the distance, I felt like a right city girl.

Working as a Sales Analyst I was required to act as a bridge between the consultants and the Account Managers within the sales team. My role was to understand the client’s requirements that Account Managers received and to give them an overview of the current available consultants and their skillsets. To be successful in this position it was essential for me to maintain a personable attitude with the consultants to determine whether they’d be a good fit for the client. Having my opinion valued by Account Managers was a really rewarding part of the role, I saw how my input helped our consultants gain an interview and eventually be placed on client site.

Additionally, my role as an analyst enabled me to work with numerous departments across the business, liaising with stakeholders and senior management whilst assisting the sales team. It gave me a greater understanding of how different departments complement each other to produce the overall business model and wider business objectives. This placement has meant I have been able to use my textbook theoretical knowledge and learning and apply this to good business practice to assist with my work.

As my degree is internationally focused, I was particularly interested in developing my understanding of how a global company communicated a coherent message and datasets across borders, whether this be in-house or to the external market. Over the past six months, I have had visibility on the International Finance regional sales team’s forecasts and pipelines for the forthcoming sales quarters. I have learnt and seen the importance of how individual data impacts a global number and target. Moreover, it has made me appreciate how my work with the London Account Managers and their team impacts the businesses growth globally.

I would like to thank everyone at FDM for the opportunity to learn, grow and develop throughout my placement. It has been an invaluable experience in which I have made friends for life and I encourage any undergraduate to seize a placement opportunity with both hands.

I feel I have developed massively as a young professional in the corporate world and cannot thank FDM enough for supporting me to do so. Now I am looking forward to returning to Nottingham Trent in September to finish where I left off whilst still maintaining relations and working for FDM as a Student Ambassador.
